Why do I need to prove that I'm relocating from outside The Hague? According to the Dutch Fixed Rental Contracts Act (effective July 1, 2024), only students who are relocating to another municipality for their studies are eligible for a temporary rental contract. As a landlord, we are legally required to verify this.
What documents are accepted as proof of my current residence? An extract from the Dutch Population Registry (BRP), a recent rental agreement, or recent utility bills in your name and address (not older than 3 months).
Can I extend the rental contract after 24 months? After the temporary contract expires, only a permanent rental contract (for an indefinite period) can be offered, if both parties agree.
Can I share the studio with a roommate? No, the property is exclusively rented to a single student. House sharing is not permitted under the rental agreement.
